As part of the GNSO Improvements Process, which has as its objective to improve the structure and operations of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), the Policy Process Steering Committee (PPSC) has now submitted to the GNSO Council the proposed GNSO Working Group Guidelines (see gnso.icann.org/improvements/gnso-working-group-guidelines-final-10dec10-en.pdf [PDF, 626 KB]).

The ccNSO Review Working Group releases today its draft Final Report [PDF, 787 KB] for public comments . The Report presents the draft conclusions and recommendations of the Working Group on the review process of ccNSO, the Country Code Names Supporting Organization

Background/Explanation: On 26 June 2009 the Board of Directors of ICANN approved a resolution ( 2009.06.26.18 ) requesting that the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) and the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC), in consultation with staff, convene an Internationalized Registration Data Working Group (IRD-WG) comprised of individuals with knowledge, expertise, and experience in these areas to study the feasibility and suitability of introducing display specifications to deal with the internationalization of registration data. The Board further directed the IRD-WG to solicit input from interested constituencies including country code top level domain (ccTLD) operators and the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) during its discussions to ensure broad community input.

The Board Review Working Group (BRWG), in its final report [PDF, 116 KB], recommended that the current timing of appointments to the Board be altered so that all incoming Board members are sat at an ICANN Public Meeting. Currently, only Board members appointed by the Nominating Committee are seated at a Public Meeting.

Trusted Computing Group eyes cloud security framework The Trusted Computing Group Monday announced a working group aimed at publishing an open standards framework for cloud computing security that could serve as a blueprint for service providers, their customers and vendors building security products. Known as the Trusted Multi-Tenant Infrastructure Work Group, there are about 50 TCG members participating, including HP, IBM, AMD and Microsoft

Nokia appears to be interested in applying for the .NOKIA top level domain according to a Domain Incite report. During a meeting of ICANN’s vertical integration working group on 30 August Nokia working group representative Tero Mustala said, “our company is considering the possibilities to apply for a new gTLD” according to the report
