September 2, 2011 — Intel announced this week it has formed a new subsidiary, Intel Federal, to provide strategic focus in order to better address new opportunities in working with the US government.
It appears likely the Saudi Arabian Oil Company snapped up the top reported sale for the week to 17 July according to the Domain Name Journal weekly sales chart. The domain name topping the chart was sadara.com, sold for $71,000 through Sedo. It was a quiet week for big sales with the second biggest sale being nursepractitioner.com, selling for $36,300. Overall there were 12 .COM sales in the top 20 while Sedo also accounted 12 of the top 20 sales. There were also five ccTLD sales in the top 20. After a quiet week for big sales, the week to 12 June popped up with a good six-figure sale. Adventure.com topped the Domain Name Journal weekly sales chart, selling for an adventurous $200,000 through MediaOptions. It easily topped the second-biggest sale, phrases.com, which sold for $80,000 through UpMarketDNS followed by AdNet.com, selling for $60,000 through AfternicDLS/Moniker/SnapNames. Overall .COM names dominated the week with 16 of the top 23 (there was a three-way tie for 20th spot) while Sedo was a little quiet with the top sales leaderboard, accounting for 12 of the sales. There were also five ccTLD sales – three .CO domains, one .LY and one .DE. In a week where the top selling domain (soles.com) went for the relatively low amount of $50,000 there were only 13 domain names that made the five-figure mark. Overall in the week to 8 June, the week was quiet for Sedo who accounted for only nine of the top 20 sales while .COM domains made up ten of the top 20. There were no six-figure sales in the week to 29 May according to Domain Name Journal’s list of reported sales where FatBurners.com topped the weekly chart, selling for $66,000 through Sedo. Internet.co was second, selling for a somewhat surprisingly low $40,000, while another surprisingly low sale was TheWall.com in eighth place, selling for $25,000. However while there were no big sales, the mid-market was busy with over 40 five-figure sales for the week. Overall there were eleven .COM sales in the top 20 and ten Sedo sales including the top three. 33.com topped the weekly sales list compiled by Domain Name Journal in the week to 22 May, selling for $358,000 through DomainAdvisors, being one of two six-figure sales for the week. The second six-figure sale was cupidon.com (“cupid” in French) that sold for £175,000 ($285,250) in a private sale. Overall .COM sales dominated, taking 12 of the top 20 places while Sedo also took its usual dominant position being responsible for 11 of the top 20 sales. There were four ccTLD sales including business.co and a duo of .DE domains with gaertnerei.de and gärtnerei.de (“greenhouse” in German) selling for the equivalent of €11,781 ($16,493) each. In a report issued this week, online watchdog group the Electronic Frontier Foundation said that certificate authorities are issuing SSL certificates for unqualified domains in large numbers, a practice that the report’s author Chris Palmer says could impact the integrity of the whole SSL system, and puts Internet users at increased risk of attack.
