Did Feds Shut Down 73000 Blogs, and Why? – Politics Daily (blog)

A Web-hosting firm says it was ordered by a law enforcement agency to shut down Blogetry.com, a free platform used by more than 70,000 bloggers, but a company spokesman won’t say why or who is responsible for the termination of service. CNET reported that BurstNet, the hosting company, informed Blogetery’s operator that it was required to end its service at the request of law enforcement, but it wouldn’t say which agency. No reason was given for the shutdown, but BurstNet did cite “a history of abuse” on many blogs.

IFPI Targets OpenBitTorrent Hosting Firm in Spain – Digital Media Wire

Los Angeles – After successfully getting a Swedish ISP to sever ties with file-sharing tracker service OpenBitTorrent, international record label trade group IFPI is now attempting to duplicate the tactic with the service’s new Web host in Spain, TorrentFreak reported. The IFPI notes that OpenBitTorrent does not itself host any copyright protected works, but enables infringement through links to material hosted elsewhere

In August 2009, Black Internet cut off Pirate Bay under orders from Stockholm’s district court under penalty of a fine of half-a-million kronor ($64,527).
