Listing a domain on Sedo.com: if you arrange a sale somewhere else, do they still take commission?

Listing a domain on Sedo.com: if you arrange a sale somewhere else, do they still take commission?

I have a domain name parked and being sold at sedo.com. I also am promoting this domain name myself on various message boards and other auction sites. If I sell it to someone off-site from Sedo.com, will they still take a big commission percentage from the sale as if they had helped generate it? Would they try to do that? Please advise, thanks.

Aged Expired Domains – Are They Really Good Enough?

Aged Expired Domains – Are They Really Good Enough?

Determining the real commercial value of an aged domain is quite difficult and tedious. Domain traders make it a point to grab aged domains from auction houses just to taste their hidden powers and commercial advantages. However, experienced and seasoned domain traders always doubt about the commercial viability of such domains. According to domain name experts, considering the actual age of a given expired domain is a very small factor.

Expired domains that are really old, say 12 years, may provide you some undeniable advantages due to their ripe, old age; lot of people can identify its name because of the old acquaintance. Now the big question is why do domain name traders desire the issue of age so badly? Is there something that you and I do not know? One conventional bit of thought says that all good quality domains were registered first and in actuality, they should be too good to be neglected. This seems a valid argument and a sensible issue as far as the issue of age is concerned.

On the other hand, some domain name traders are too skeptical about old domains, just because they may have nothing to offer you, except that they have a past record of continuous and consistent renewal. An old domain may just be a simple domain with no established history of traffic and inbound links. Experts also suggest that an old domain may have belonged to two categories of owners- an established business or industry that will never let their domain slip out of their hands, or an old domain owned by small businesses or individuals, who might have lost their control over their domains due to some unknown reasons.

However, there is one single significant advantage associated with old domains, especially when they relate themselves with the leading searching engines. Google has a verifiable system of grading domain names according to their age; its massive and humongous search technological algorithms ensure that really old domains are placed at their relevant search engine rank positions. However, at what position such domains get their ranking is still uncertain and unsure.

Fixing the actual price for such domains are actually very difficult and you may decide it going by the current market trends, while buying one such domain. However, one thing to note here is that people are ready to pay a fair price for such domains, just to utilize them for developing meaningful web sites. If you wish to buy an old expired domain, ensure that you are checking its age; if the age is more than say 8 years, you can definitely go for it. Age factors can help you find out the quality of generics, as this is a better indicator of finding the value of an expired domain name. Most of the premium and better quality domain names sprout from an internet boom era of late 1990’s.

However, buying expired domains based on their perceived age could be a tricky issue and you may need to learn and understand how the age of a given domain expired can really help you in your domain trading business.

Managed Dedicated Servers: are They for You?

Managed Dedicated Servers: are They for You?

Dedicated server hosting is where the service provider sets up an entire hosting service just for your company. Since the server is used only by one company running on it, the benefits of speed, security and continued support are obvious. Using dedicated servers ensures loading times that are twice as fast because your server is ?dedicated’ to running your website.

Any company that deems its needs significantly big enough to go for dedicated servers has two options: managed and unmanaged dedicated servers. Unmanaged servers are servers where you are provided with little more than storage space and security. You will have to be responsible for technical issues that are bound to crop up from time to time.

On the other hand, managed dedicated servers are ?managed’ for you. If you do not have the expertise or time to oversee and manage the running of the server, then, make use of managed hosting services. Everything you need will be there in the package your host offers. The list of services offered by various hosts differs and there are no industry standards when it comes to how much support you will get. Different hosts provide different services and price their services accordingly. However, the most common services include firewall and antivirus, administration, data back-up, security updates, system monitoring and disaster recovery.

Before you choose the right kind of managed dedicated hosting service, it is important to know the service provider, their technical capabilities, knowledge and integrity. Customer loyalty hinges on a reliable website and it is vital for your business that you are up and running at all times. So, what are the features you need to look for?

Installation: Choose a service provider that has the capability to cater to your specific requirements. By doing so, you can enjoy the scalability that your organization requires as you expand and grow.

Guarantees and support: Most reputed hosts offer continuous network and uptime, almost to the extent of 99.99%. Of course, only companies that have a dedicated team of monitoring staff and service personnel can offer this. It is equally important to look for a host who provides 24/7 support, 365 days a year. If your host does not have the ability to provide support as and when you require it, you will have to wait ages before your website issues can be resolved. The ideal web host will have enough software monitoring systems in place to prevent this. You will also have to take into account the time required for hardware replacement. Many companies offer replacements within the hour, with some even promising service within 15 minutes! Downtime and outages, for whatever reason, can affect your web performance and e-business drastically. One way to ensure that your service provider actually does live up to his promise is to go through testimonials, ask for references and visit forums. From these sources, you can get honest reviews and accounts of personal experiences.

Managed dedicated servers can make it easy for you to get your e-business online, with the least amount of time and trouble; at least, that is what every company promises. However, it is up to you to pick the service provider who actually translates these promises into reality.

Managed dedicated servers can make it easy for you to get your e-business online, with the least amount of time and trouble.
