The website for the Libyan registry, nic.ly, was defaced by hackers as rebels entered the capital city of Tripoli. The hackers left a message on the website saying “Hacked by Electr0n & ali monder” along with “bye bye Qadaffi”. Below that it said “Feb 17 Libya,” the date protestors designated a “day of rage” against Gaddafi and his regime with greetings to a number of hackers and also to “all Muslim hackers”. There are even conveniently a couple of email addresses to contact the hackers!

The wikileaks.org domain name is back in action following the decision by EveryDNS to terminate registrar services for the domain last week at the height of the assault on the whistle-blowing website. ICANN has launched the website for its next meeting, the 39th of its thrice yearly meetings, to be held in the Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias, or ‘La Heroica’, the Heroic City. Cartagena is located in a bay on the Caribbean Sea. The meeting is to be held from 5 to 10 December and is being hosted by the new .CO registry operators

Internet search giant Google says that the Stabroek News website has not hosted malicious software over the last 90 days and that it “is not currently listed as suspicious.” Google said that over the last 90 days the website www.stabroeknews.com “appeared to function as an intermediary for the infection of 1 site(s)” and that it was “listed for suspicious activity 1 time(s) over the past 90 days.”   This had resulted in the internet search giant temporarily issuing a security advisory listing the Stabroek News website as “suspicious” for several hours on Saturday.  However, full access to the website was restored at 9 pm on Saturday. Stabroek News technical staffer Kester Clarke said that on Friday one of the newspaper company’s web servers was targeted by an unknown attacker.
