Facebook Files Lawsuit Against 25 Typosquatters

Facebook has filed a suit against 25 typosquatter who have registered domain names similar to facebook.com reports VentureBeat . According to the report, the domain names in question are either typos or closely related to facebook.com and are what Facebook calls example of trademark infringement. “(The) defendants’ schemes also diminish the goodwill associated with Facebook and its marks, injure Facebook’s reputation, breach enforceable agreements between Defendants and Facebook, interfere with Facebook’s business, and unjustly enrich Defendants,” Facebook states in the court document. “Facebook therefore seeks an order cancelling Defendants’ rights in their typosquatter domain names or transferring those typosquatter domain names to Facebook, awarding Facebook damages and providing other relief.” Of those accused of typosquatting most are companies, a few individuals, and some of the domain names in question are facebobk.com, facemook.com, wwwfacefook.com, ffacebook.com and faecbook.com.

Noel Gallagher Recovers Domain Name From Oasis Fan

A Spanish Oasis fan that registered the domain name noelgallagher.com around ten years ago has been tempted to hand over the domain after some wooing from Gallagher. According to a report in the NME, the fan originally demanded tens of thousands of pounds but was tempted to hand it over after Gallagher flew him “to London, put him up in a swanky hotel and offered him a truckload of Oasis [merchandise] and a guest list place for future solo gigs, he relented.”

Woolworths, Australia’s largest retailer, paid A$33,333 for the domain name hardware.com.au that had previously been registered to Bunnings Building Supplies.

American Man Pleads Guilty To Domain Name Theft

The domain name P2P.com was stolen by a New Jersey man and sold on eBay for more than $111,000, AP reports. The report says a 26 year-old man has pleaded guilty in a New Jersey court to hacking into the registrant’s Go Daddy account in 2006 and transferred the domain name to his own account before selling it to an unwitting buyer who did not know the domain name was stolen. Prosecutors will recommend that he serves a five-year prison term and pay restitution for his crimes, the report says.
