Earlier this month, telecommunications provider Verizon closed its acquisition of Terremark for $1.4 billion in a short-form merger under Delaware law, which eliminated the need for Terremark shareholders to vote on the matter. Soon after the acquisition was announced in January , some Terremark shareholders filed class action lawsuits against Terremark that claimed the company failed to take the appopriate measures to gain the highest offer in the acquisition.

The annual channel partner conference was held in New Orleans on March 1.  “Cisco works diligently with all of its channel partners, and it is an honor to announce Terremark as a Cisco Partner Summit award recipient,” Jim Sherriff, senior vice president, US and Canada Partner Organization at Cisco said in a statement. “The Service Provider Cloud Offering of the Year Award presented to Terremark’s Enterprise Cloud recognizes its performance and expertise as a Cisco channel partner in 2010.” The awards are presented at three levels: regional, theater and global, according to Cisco.

An image from the website of Terremark’s under-construction NAP of Amsterdam (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a post this week on Data Center Dynamics , Verizon ( www.verizon.com ) has already revealed big plans for its role in the cloud computing space, and plans to pursue those objectives aggressively, following the recent news that it would acquire Terremark for $1.4 billion , though that deal has yet to close. In an interview with Data Center Dynamics, Verizon regional VP of Enterprise, Cloud and IT Services for Europe, David Howorth, said the company is already laying out plans to capitalize on the scale – in data center space and networking – that the acquisition will bring to the company. Verizon’s cloud computing capabilities applied to Terremark’s data center infrastructure, he says, will enable the company to introduce a full set of cloud computing services.
