ICANN, ISOC and the International Chamber of Commerce have joined seven other groups in sending a letter to the United’ Nations’ Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) expressing surprise and strong opposition to a government-only model for participation and consultation in working group whose mission is to study improvements to the Internet Governance Forum. The letter was signed by ten organisations in total.

White House meeting aimed to assert cybersecurity leadership The White House meeting on cybersecurity held on Wednesday appears to have been as much about assessing progress on the President’s cybersecurity agenda as it was on showing executive office leadership on the issue. The meeting was convened by White House cybersecurity coordinator Howard Schmidt, and was briefly attended by President Obama. Among the 150 people or so who were present at the meeting were Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, as well as cybersecurity officials from the FBI, Department of Defense and several other agencies.

As part of its celebration of 25 years of Internet innovation, VeriSign,announced the “.com 25″ — a list of pioneering individuals and companies honored for their contributions to the development of the Internet.
