Domain Names: An Unusual and Profitable Characteristic

Domain Names: An Unusual and Profitable Characteristic

Due to my other Internet activities I had relegated my hundreds
of domain names to a low priority and seldom gave them much
thought. The exception was for some minor research for topics to
create websites for a small number of domains. Fortunately, a
registrar who caters to those with many domains managed most of
my names. Part of their service is providing a number of
statistics on each domain name. In addition, the names (URL’s)
host a directory website where I can make a few cents (if I’m
lucky) if visitors to the website click any of the links.

A few days ago I decided to take a quick look at some of those
domains. I had a new idea for a few possible websites and wanted
to see which ones were getting enough hits to warrant further
consideration. As I created a report showing traffic on some of
my domains I was amazed to find one of my domain names had a lot
of impressions (website page views). Where normally that name
had a few impressions each day it had several hundred that day
along with several dollars of profit where there usually was
none.

That was the first time I had noticed such a drastic change in
one of my domains in such a short period of time – one day. The
previous day there were the normal few views and no money to be
made from that domain name. I asked my co-worker if he heard
anything in the news involving video games since the domain name
showing unusual traffic was related to video games. He said no,
he had heard nothing. Since he was a thirty-something and was
usually aware of such things I first thought it might be just an
aberration, but it was unsettling nevertheless. As a stock and
options investor, I am very familiar with the effects of news on
those financial instruments so news was the first thing to cross
my mind that might change the activity on a domain name so fast.

Later that evening, right before turning off my home computer, I
thought of that domain name again and took a quick glance at its
statistics. Wow! There were a lot more impressions and many more
dollars showed as profit off that surge of hits.

About that time my son, nineteen and an ex video game fanatic,
who was in Korea (I was in Southern California), came on and
sent me a message via Instant Messenger. We conversed a short
while then I asked him if he had heard any news about Xbox
because by then I was suspecting something big must have been
said in the news related to that specific video game platform.
My domain name XboxStars.com was going wild with hits, compared
to its usual half-dozen hits or less each day. He said, “Dad, I
think they announced they are coming out with an Xbox 2″.
Immediately I knew that was why my domain was getting so much
action. It was reacting to the news! Maybe even over reacting.
The news had probably been released that day. I never really saw
the actual news related to that announcement, but I later
checked some of the video game sites and their forums and there
was lots of talk about Microsoft’s announcement related to Xbox2
to have some games created in Japan and speculation that some
version or prototype of Xbox 2 would be at a well known game
convention the next week.

I followed the impressions and clicks for the next few days and
sure enough, the action had it been graphed, would have looked
like a huge peak, rising very high and then falling like a rock
in just a matter of a few days. Until that day I had never
realized a domain name could react to news. Here is how it
played out.

Date Domain Impressions Earnings 02-25-05 XboxStars.com 1 $00.00
02-26-05 XboxStars.com 1 $00.00 02-27-05 XboxStars.com 4 $00.00
02-28-05 XboxStars.com 1 $00.00 03-01-05 XboxStars.com 261
$97.77 03-02-05 XboxStars.com 483 $30.33 03-03-05 XboxStars.com
404 $28.15 03-04-05 XboxStars.com 569 $22.05 03-05-05
XboxStars.com 2 $01.22 03-06-05 XboxStars.com 4 $00.00 03-07-05
XboxStars.com 4 $00.00 (as of 03-07-05 9:00 am)

I had noticed some domain names had ups and downs before, but
never associated that with potential news affecting the domain
name. One especially, but with not so pronounced activity, I did
a cursory check on, and found out the name is related to
football. Although initially the name Insidend.com didn’t sound
related to a sport I guess the “inside” and the “end” could be
construed as being related to inside linebacker and end zone,
defensive end, or tight end, etc. That’s a far stretch, but then
again football is an extremely popular sport and is often in the
news during football season. Whether or not football is
affecting this particular domain remains to be seen, but now
I’ll be on the lookout for such possibilities when I register
new domain names or see huge changes in activity on any of my
domain names.

I had better do some follow up research on other domain names
that seem to have a lot of fluctuating activity. Take a hint
from my experience. If you have any domain names that could be
subject to reaction to news events you may be able to plan a
strategy to capitalize on certain events depending on the
circumstances. This could be especially profitable if you are
selling something on a website with such a name.

Secure Your Profitable Automated Forex Trading With Forex Robot Vps Hosting

Secure Your Profitable Automated Forex Trading With Forex Robot Vps Hosting

The advancement of forex trading software has blessed us with a truly possible additional income. As mentioned in my write up about the metatrader expert advisor, we can see how this automated forex trading is realised. There is, however, one requirement that not so many people talk about when it comes to running expert advisors to do the forex trading for you, that is, it has to be let run as long as the forex market is open. And, the forex market is open 24 hours, 5 days a week.

Why do we need to run the expert advisor 24 hours, 5 days a week?

To answer this question, we have to look at the strategy programmed into expert advisors first. Most EAs are programmed to make profit for the owner, and the most profitable EAs are the ones that ’scalped’ the forex market for small gains, as many times a day as possible. As unpredictable as a forex market is, nobody knows when will these small profits can be made, maybe a few times in the morning, maybe another few times in the afternoon and maybe another few times in the evening/at night. Therefore, to get the maximum return of investment(ROI), the best way to optimise the outcome of running EAs is to run it 24 hours, 5 days a week. Your EA need to be up and running to open, close or modify trades. In other words, your computer has to be switched on 24 hours, 5 days a week since it is the one that is running your expert advisor(s).

So what’s the problem? I can switch on my computer 24 hours, 5 days a week!

True. In fact, anyone can switch on their computer 24 hours, 5 days a week. But at what cost? Do you know that:

Most computers/software hangs or breaks down at least once a month because of virus, memory leak/shortage, bad software, component overheat, etc?

Your MS Windows might go blank or show blue screen once a while?

Your hard disk might suddenly crash on you on a one fine day?

Once in a while your residential/home area might experience blackouts/electric power loss?

Your kids might be playing near the computer and accidentally trip on the wire plug.

Now, what if any of these unfortunate events happen when you have an open trade made by the expert advisor? What if you have a few open trades made by the expert advisor? (FACT: Most EAs might open a few trades at one time). And what if you are not there to remedy the situation.

Best case scenario: your open trades are making a fortune while you are trying to get your computer running again or get you electricity back.

Worst case scenario: all your open trades are automatically closed, by the forex software because you ran out of free margin (capital). In other words, you can lose all your account money because of one, unexpected, unfortunate event.

Simple Solution

If you are not a professional forex trader, does not mean you cannot act like one. All professional traders who use expert advisors, run their forex software separately on a different machine, maintained by computer hardware professionals. You should do the same and it does not cost that much either. In fact, it would cost only a fraction more than the cost of you running your computer 24 hours, 5 days a week yourself (FACT: The cost for you to run a computer 24 hours, 5 days a week ranges from USD18-USD20 a month). The idea is to subscribe to this service (also known as Virtual Private Server/ VPS Hosting), install your metatrader and your expert advisor there. From that remote machine then you can run your EA to automatically trade forex for you. It is much safer, guaranteed.

So how do i know which server to subscribe to?

First of all, lets do a checklist of what you need.

Your remote machine should be running all the time, meaning this service cannot say they have any less than 99% up-time. (1% or less downtime is usually necessary for maintenance and they usually notify you beforehand). This is the main reason you are going for this service or else you could have done it yourself.

If you are only familiar with MS Windows then make sure you are subscribing to a MS Windows-based remote server. You do not want to be surprised when you logged in and see an unfamiliar desktop e.g., linux desktop environment and then do not know what to do.

It should be cost effective since you are only running 1 software there (for my case, its MetaTrader software). If you bought FAP Turbo as your expert advisor, then they are recommending a service provider at a cost of USD70 a month. I am not saying you should not consider them but I can assure you there are a bit cheaper service provider out there.

It has to allow your forex software to execute and trade properly. For your information, there are many types of remote hosting services out there. There are File hosting, web hosting, dedicated server hosting and virtual private server or VPS hosting. VPS Hosting is the one you are looking for since it is the only service that allow you to access a desktop, run executable software and allow internet port access aside from the http port. Actually, dedicated server hosting also would give you the same service but it is definitely an overkill and normally more expensive.

Optional for tech-savvy people but a must for others. Choose a service provider that ensure their VPS service is ready for forex trading. This is to eliminate any excuse for them to tell you why your attempt to trade forex on your subscribed machine not possible/supported.

An example of an excellent forex robot VPS hosting provider is ForexVPS.com, based on personal experience and reviews from forex traders in forums all over internet, I highly recommend it. Check out their services and hosting plans and decide for yourself. Finally, although automated forex trading is definitely profitable, it also has it risks and getting yourself a VPS hosting service will definitely put you at ease.

Is Dedicated Server Hosting Profitable?

Hosting is the process of getting a website on the Internet. In order to get a website on the internet on all the time, individuals put up their own websites with the help of an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

As far as hosting is concerned, you will find a lot companies who are offering web hosting services at different packages. If you want to get your website hosted with a company that can provide dedicated server hosting service then you need to pay some extra money for this. Dedicated hosting is preferable for large organizations or clients who not only need professional assistance for their needs, but also are willing pay more money. Obviously, the dedicated hosting is much more expensive than the ordinary hosting, but the advantages may outweigh the expenses.

Dedicated hosting companies often provide customized hosting services and remove all hassles of worrying about hardware issues and troubleshooting. If you expect to have lot of traffic to your website, then it is recommended that dedicated server hosting is essential for your website. Dedicated server hosting involves leasing an entire server offering choices of software, scripting languages and the appropriate hardware needed for the website.

If you think your website needs dedicated server hosting then you have to take care of some points before selecting a web hosting company. You need to know about the services what is offered by the company in terms of required software as well as hardware. The most essential things to consider are uptime servers, power backup, type of operating systems (OS) and the control panel. The control panel is used to access control of the website. The uptime server is the time or duration of the time for which the site is running through the server.

If you are looking for a web hosting company that can offers dedicated server hosting service then I can assure you that Olive Web Hosting is the best option for you.
