Computerworld – Several days after Amazon.com’s cloud outage knocked some high-profile Web sites offline, the company said its cloud service was largely back up and running.

The effects of the service interruption were widespread because Amazon is a major provider of data center hosting for the fast-emerging market of cloud computing services. That meant thousands of smaller companies were depending on Amazon to run their website operations, store their business data and even keep track of their email service.
Jacob Aron, technology reporter Amazon’s EC2 web-hosting service is currently experiencing technical difficulties, knocking many of the web’s popular social sites offline in the process.
