According to the press release, adding a managed data center makes the company one of the first service providers in the Midwest to enable customers to build virtual private cloud environments. US Signal says its managed data center is built with dedicated resource pools to host virtual private servers accessible through US Signal Wide Area Networks.

Igor Seletskiy of CloudLinux presents on Thursday afternoon (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In one of the first Thursday afternoon sessions, Igor Seletskiy of CloudLInux offered a presentation on moving shared hosting resources to the cloud, illustrating a unique element of the CloudLinux focus, and an element of the cloud business that is not discussed nearly as much. I’m going to skip recording much of the “what is the cloud, really” portion of the presentation, except to say that Seletskiy thinks cloud shouldn’t be considered a technical term, or used as one, and should be considered a marketing term. That is not to say there isn’t a cloud, or that there aren’t benefits to using cloud resources – and they’re the ones we’re familiar with, performance, reliability and redundancy benefits.

Sascha Frank of Espiridon presents a session Tuesday afternoon (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In an effort to venture a little further from the ordinary over here, I attended a session that wasn’t explicitly about web hosting – presentation on increasing employee productivity, by Sascha Frank of Espiridon, an executive search firm that has worked for Parallels, Intergenia and 1&1 Internet, among others. He began with a little exercise, in which he asked audience members to offer up ideas on what makes a good marriage – many of them translate pretty directly to business, such as trust and good communication.

VMware vCenter Operations integrates performance, capacity and configuration management (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud solutions provider VMware ( www.vmware.com ) announced on Tuesday it has unveiled its strategy and a new solution VMware vCenter Operations to simplify and automate how IT organizations manage services in dynamic virtual and cloud environments. The move comes a month after the release of VMware vCloud Connector , a free plug-in that lets administrators immediate deployment and management of virtual machines across its cloud services within the VMware vSphere client. According to the press release, VMware vCenter Operations will help customers “transform IT operations to achieve the agility and economics of cloud computing.” VMware vSphere has helped thousands of companies transform their data centers, simplifying many core systems management functions, such as resource allocation and load balancing, by building them into the virtualization platform.
