Scammers Seek to Exploit Japan Disaster with Malicious Websites

Scammers are using different tactics, including posting messages or fake news related to trending topics on Twitter in an effort to dupe unsuspecting users into visiting malicious websites, These individuals will setup different fraudulent charities and sites that will try to steal the would-be victim’s financial information. Security websites are warning Internet users to stick to using reputable websites such as UNICEF, the Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders when making donations to victims of the Japan disaster

110000 Credit Card Numbers Stolen in Tour Company Web Server Hack – Web Host Industry Review

A screenshot of the letter sent to New Hampshire’s Attorney General (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — New York City bus tour company CitySights NY ( www.citysightsny.com ) announced earlier this month that a SQL injection attack on its web server compromised about 110,000 credit card numbers.  Although the breach happened on September 26, it was discovered a month later on October 25 when a web programmer noticed the unauthorized script.  The breach became public on December 9 when a letter sent to New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney from CitySight’s parent company, Twin America, was posted online. Around 300 New Hampshire residents were among those affected by the attack.

MasterCard Website Taken Down by Second DDoS Attack

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a report published by Internet research organization Netcraft ( www.netcraft.com ) another attack against the credit card company by Anonymous, the nebulous association of internet users behind the “Operation: Payback” attacks managed to take its website offline Sunday. The first attack, which took place last Wednesday , succeeded in disrupting the performance of MasterCard’s payment processing systems, along with those of Visa and PayPal. Netcraft says consumers reported problems using credit cards online, and businesses reported a disruption in trade.
