Cloud Software Developer CloudLinux Releases LVE 08

A screen shot of LVE manager (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting management software developer CloudLinux ( www.cloudlinux.com ) announced on Tuesday it has released Lightweight Virtual Environment 0.8, the latest release of its flagship isolation technology that increases server density, stability and reliability.   The move follows the July 2010 release of an extension of Lightweight Virtual Environment technology that creates a higher level of security for shared hosting servers. The new release features improved memory limits, support for multiple CPU cores per LVE, simplified lvetop output, improved lve-stats daemon, support for memory and the number of cores reporting in lveinfo, and cPanel LVE Manager improvements to manage memory and CPU limits

Number of cases filed in 2010 increases thanks largely to brand protection services. The number of Uniform domain-name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP)cases filed at the two largest arbitration providers increased over 25% in 2010 compared to 2009, a Domain Name Wire analysis shows. However, the rate of filing defined as the number of cases divided by the number of registered domains remains near an all time low

Amazon Acquires Dublin Site for Cloud Data Center – Web Host Industry Review

Netcraft’s graph showing the number of Amazon and non-Amazon web servers in the past decade (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Amazon has acquired a former supermarket warehouse at Greenhills Industrial Estate near Dublin for the purpose of converting into a data center to meet the needs of its growing cloud computing services, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge . The company recently acquired a 240,000 square foot building that was previously used as a storage house for UK supermarket chain Tesco.  Amazon has also leased space for data center expansion in the Snughborough Industrial Estate in Ballycoolin and the Clonshaugh Industrial Estate, both of which are located in the Dublin area. Amazon Web Services previously opened a facility in Dublin back in December 2008 to house the European availablity zones for its EC2 cloud computing services

IPv4 Warehouse Officially Emptied, IPv6 Adoption Becoming Urgent

The last allocation of IPv4 addresses from the central pool to Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) occurred Thursday in a symbolic ceremony hosted by ICANN in Miami along with the Number Resources Organization (NRO), the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and the Internet Society. The allocation of the remaining five blocks of IPv4 addresses were allocated to the five RIRs. The allocation of the final IPv4 addresses is analogous to the last crates of a product leaving a manufacturing warehouse and going to the regional stores or distributions centres, where they can still be distributed to the public.

DENIC releases nine short domain names on 12 January

On 12 January 2011, 10:00 CET, the central German registry DENIC is going to make available nine short domains for registration which were previously blocked due to temporary injunctions: dw.de, e.de, f.de, g.de, hr.de, sr.de, x.de, y.de and z.de. Registration will be made applying DENIC’s standard “first come, first served” principle. Since the number of available domains is extremely limited, DENIC will use a special procedure: Applicants will have to submit requests by fax to fax numbers established for this particular purpose
