(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open-source collaboration software developer Open-Xchange ( www.open-xchange.com ) will be hosting its second world-wide partner event November 4, 2010, in Cologne, Germany, where about 200 attendees are expected to gather to learn from experts and from each other how to advance their businesses using email and collaboration services. According to Open-Xchange, the event is free for qualified attendees, and will take place on November 4 in at KölnSky, which is located next to the famous Cologne cathedral (Kölner Dom) on the Rhine river.
A widespread web attack that hit domains parked at web hosting provider Network Solutions affected far fewer domains than previously estimated, according to the company’s preliminary analysis of the attack. Late last week, researchers at Santa Clara, Calif.-based security firm Armorize, said anywhere from 500,000 to five million parked domains at Network Solutions had been serving malware to visitors due to an infected widget embedded into the pages. However, based on its preliminary analysis of the attack, Network Solutions determined that less than 120,000 parked domains were affected, the web hosting provider said in a blog post Tuesday

The company was notified and quickly remedied the parking pags. Based on a yahoo search only, there are over 5 million domain names with NSI parked landers that may have been affected by this drive by malware

An update to the report posted Sunday says the compromise has since been patched by Network Solutions, at least temporarily, by commenting out the code to prevent it from loading.
