Wikileaks.org and CableGate Mirrors to be Taken Down Over DDoS Attack Fears Thursday, December 23, 2010, 12:02:41 PM The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) reported yesterday that after the whistle-blowing site Wikileaks.org was taken down; its successive mirrors are next in the firing line. Hosting provider SiteGround.com has suspended the account of a user who was mirroring some of the 250,000 leaked CableGate documents on his own website. SiteGround claimed that, by doing so, the user ‘severely’ violated its terms of use and acceptable use policy.

12|10|2010 1:27 pm EDT NamePros.com Gets Outed In Browser History Sniffing Fiasco by Adam Strong in Categories: News – 7 Comments In a story on ZDNet this week, adult website YouPorn.com is being sued for “browser history sniffing” .  ZDNet points to a study conducted by University of California, San Diego of the global to 50,000 sites on the internet. In the study the researchers claim to have “confirmed that 46 websites used browser (history) sniffing to see which sites users visited before they arrived, and noted 326 sites they deemed “suspicious” in history tracking practices.”  Of the 46 sites mentioned, Namepros.com was one that the researches found to be engaging in this ‘suspicious’ browser history sniffing and “actually doing history hijacking”

Visitors to the siezed domains were met with an image saying the domain had been taken by Homeland Security (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a variety of reports posted over the weekend, the US Department of Homeland Security shut down more than 70 websites it said were involved in either the sale of counterfeit goods or the distribution of pirated content, over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Visitors to those domains saw a graphic quoting US copyright laws, and informing visitors that he sites had been taken over by the authorities. The move has stirred the expected outcry from the community that monitors (and tends to oppose) major copyright-law moves like this one, though it should be said the opponents tend to come more from the file-sharing community

As seen in this chart from Google Finance, Rackspace shares rose significantly on Tuesday morning. (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting and cloud-computing vendor Rackspace Hosting ( www.rackspace.com ) share value jumped more than 10-percent in early morning trading today, observed by investment website the Motley Fool , which has some speculating about the nature of the sudden jump in value. According to a Motley Fool post by writer Anders Bylund, there are two probable factors driving this growth: speculation over a looming Dell buyout, and a “halo effect” from the strong results posted by rival Terremark Worldwide ( www.terremark.com ).  Dell chief executive Michael Dell said this morning that his company would be acquiring a cloud computing company today, though it did not specify which one, according to investment news site Benzinga .
