July 22, 2011 — Level 3 Communications announced on Friday it has signed an agreement with Critical Data Network to provide high-speed internet protocol services in support of its operations in Southern California and Mexico. The move comes a month after Level 3 announced it expanded its network services into Telx’s New Jersey data center.

July 6, 2011 — Network security solutions provider StillSecure announced on Wednesday it has launched StillSecure PCI Calculator, a free online tool for retailers. According to the press release, the tool is designed to “help Level 1 though 4 retailers examine, and potentially significantly reduce, the costs and complexities associated with PCI compliance.”

A global network map of the new combined company of Level 3 and Global Crossing (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) –- Fiber-based communications services provider Level 3 Communications ( www.level3.com ) announced on Monday it will acquire rival Global Crossing ( www.globalcrossing.com ) in an all-stock deal valued at $3 billion, including $1.1 billion in net debt. The deal is pending regulatory and shareholder approval and is expected to close by the end of 2011. US-based Level 3 is offering 16 of its own shares for each Global Crossing share, equal to $23.04 per share at Level 3’s closing share price the day before the deal was announced

A screen shot of the FBI’s main website (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Content delivery network servies provider Level 3 Communications ( www.level3.com ) announced on Tuesday it has been awarded a contract to provide CDN services for the FBI’s ( www.fbi.gov ) main website through the agency’s prime contract holder Human Touch ( www.humantouchllc.com ). The value of the contract has not been disclosed. In 2010, the FBI awarded Human Touch with a $4.9 million, four-year contract to provide technical resources needed to host its new website using a Web 2.0 framework.
