Hostway provides cloud hosting, managed hosting, shared hosting, colocation, domain name registration, and ecommerce solutions to over 1.4 million websites and 600,000 customers worldwide. The case study showed that Hostway is using Outbound Spam Protection as an internal security measure to review all outbound mail traffic

US GSA Selects VeriSign to Operate GOV Domain Registry

A screen shot of the US General Services Administration website (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet infrastructure service provider VeriSign ( www.verisign.com ) announced on Thursday it has been selected by the US General Services Administration ( www.gsa.gov ) to operate the nation’s domain name registry for .gov. The move comes just a few months after the GSA awarded 11 companies a five-year, government-wide Blanket Purchase Agreement to offer Infrastructure as a Service solutions to all levels of government through the gateway Apps.gov. Following a competitive RFP and evaluation process, the GSA granted Verisign the authority to provide designated domain name registration services to federal, state and local governments operating sites under the .gov and fed.us domain names

After Attack, SourceForge Speeds Move to New Security Model – PC World

The open-source software development site SourceForge is speeding up its move to a new a security model following a targeted attack that may have compromised the passwords of its large user base. SourceForge, which hosts more than 260,000 projects, discovered the attack last Wednesday. It believes the attack was aimed at capturing passwords.

Following efforts by the well-funded trademark holder’s lobby to browbeat ICANN into submission over their desire (only partially successful) to scuttle the introduction of new gTLDs, the Recording Industry Association of America has also joined the fight. The RIAA’s Deputy General Counsel has written a threatening submission to ICANN that begins, albeit not too threateningly, saying the RIAA’s “overriding concern is to ensure that any music themed gTLD is used productively and responsibly, and not as a means to facilitate copyright or trademark infringement.” ICANN though is not the content police, and has just as much a role in ensuring that content (or behaviour) on any TLD, not just new gTLDs, abides by laws around the world as I would have thought does a recording company have on what one of its artists says or does. The RIAA ridiculously says that “under the current proposed standard, we fear that we will have no realistic ability to object if a pirate chooses to hijack a music themed gTLD to enable wide scale copyright infringement of our works.” The RIAA then complains about ICANN’s lack of transparency.
