Libyan Registry Hacked By Rebel Supporters

The website for the Libyan registry, nic.ly, was defaced by hackers as rebels entered the capital city of Tripoli. The hackers left a message on the website saying “Hacked by Electr0n & ali monder” along with “bye bye Qadaffi”. Below that it said “Feb 17 Libya,” the date protestors designated a “day of rage” against Gaddafi and his regime with greetings to a number of hackers and also to “all Muslim hackers”. There are even conveniently a couple of email addresses to contact the hackers!

An image of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) –- Tennessee-based Oak Ridge National Laboratory ( www.ornl.gov ) was hit with a spear phishing attack Friday, forcing the federal data center to cut Internet access for employees, according to a report by Wired . The federal government lab said the cybercriminals only managed to steal a “few megabytes” of information before it realized that the data was being transferred from a server. As of Tuesday, the lab could not say what the stolen data actually entailed

Hacker Group Anonymous Takes Over Security Firm HBGary

A screen shot of the defacement letter Anonymous posted to HBGary Federal’s website (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The pro-WikiLeaks hacker group Anonymous has reportedly “unplugged” HBGary ( www.hbgary.com ) from the Internet after the hackers compromised the security firm’s network over the weekend, accessing about 50,000 corporate emails and private information, according to a report by SC Magazine . The group claimed responsibilty for the attack, which was apparently motivated by HBGary Federal CEO Aaron Barr’s plans to release vital information about Anonymous.
