September 2, 2011 — European colocation Interxion Holdings announced on Thursday that its London, UK data center is reducing its carbon footprint by signing up to 100 percent renewable energy from UK provider SmartestEnergy. Last month, Interxion announced it is building a data center in the Paris metropolitan area, whose first phase will be operational in the second quarter of 2012.

September 2, 2011 — Governmental IT services provider GTSI announced on Thursday it has appointed Jim Sweeney to chief technology officer of the company. GTSI provides a range of technology solutions and professional services in the areas of software development, data center, networking, collaboration, security, and cloud computing to federal, state, and local government.

August 8, 2011 — Steve Cumings, executive director of data center solutions at Dell, delivered a Monday afternoon session on new strategies for finding business value in the cloud, suggesting that hosts can find new value in their business and new revenue by looking at new technologies of which they might not yet be aware.

July 29, 2011 — Data center operator Stream Data Centers announced on Tuesday it has sold its San Antonio data center to an unnamed “Fortune 100 Corporation”. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The 150,000-square-foot data center is located on 33 acres in Westover Hills in San Antonio.

July 14, 2011 — Connectivity provider Sidera Networks announced on Thursday that it has expanded its fiber network to several data centers in Northern Virginia. According to the press release, Sidera’s expansion includes the recently expanded Latisys’ data center campus in Ashburn.

July 6, 2011 — European data center operator Interxion Holding announced on Tuesday that its Interxion Switzerland data center is being powered by 100 percent green energy. Since the beginning of January, local energy provider Energie Opfikon AG has supplied the data center with its Aquastrom hydroelectricity product, which uses naturally flowing water instead of storage plants.

July 6, 2011 — Web hosting provider ViaWest announced on Wednesday it will hold its grand opening of its new data center, Synergy Park, located in Richardson, Texas on July 19th through 20th. The move comes just weeks after ViaWest held a grand opening ceremony for its latest Portland data center. With the addition of Synergy Park, ViaWest owns and operates 22 data centers.
