August 25, 2011 — Data center operator Quality Technology Services announced on Thursday it has appointed Rick Henson to serve as the company’s vice president of security and Matt Tyndall as executive vice president of development.

July 29, 2011 — Data center operator Stream Data Centers announced on Tuesday it has sold its San Antonio data center to an unnamed “Fortune 100 Corporation”. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The 150,000-square-foot data center is located on 33 acres in Westover Hills in San Antonio.

July 6, 2011 — Data center operator Horizon Data Center Solutions announced on Tuesday that it has received the “Authority to Operate” as a cloud computing provider to the federal government. The government has made a commitment to move its services to the cloud as part of its Cloud First policy. This announcement comes almost a month after the US government’s first chief information officer, Vivek Kundra, resigned.

i/o Data Centers’ modular data center solution, i/o ANYWHERE (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Data center operator i/o Data Centers ( www.iodatacenters.com ) announced on Tuesday that it has raised $105 million of growth capital. The investment was led by existing investor Sterling Partners and new investors managed by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.  According to the press release, the capital will be used to increase i/o ANYWHERE modular data center production capacity and expand i/o’s research and development programs, as well as accelerate deliver of i/o’s products and services.

Last week, the WHIR delved into the construction of colocation firm Data Foundry’s data center campus in Austin, Texas. The 250,000 square foot data center, the first facility in its Data Ranch, will open in June 2011
