A Fibre Channel technology roadmap, published by the FCIA (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center cabling systems maker Data Center Systems ( www.datacentersys.com ) announced on Monday that its chairman and CTO Kevin Ehringer has joined the board of directors for the Fibre Channel Industry Association ( www.fibrechannel.org ), an international Fibre Channel industry association comprised of manufacturers, vendors and systems integrators.

A Fibre Channel technology roadmap, published by the FCIA (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center cabling systems maker Data Center Systems ( www.datacentersys.com ) announced on Monday that its chairman and CTO Kevin Ehringer has joined the board of directors for the Fibre Channel Industry Association ( www.fibrechannel.org ), an international Fibre Channel industry association comprised of manufacturers, vendors and systems integrators. The Skolkovo Foundation expressed its intention in a letter sent to ICANN on 5 March 2011 to register the new gTLD .Skolkovo . ICANN’s CEO,Rod Beckstrom answered the Skolkovo Foundation and expressed his interest in the new gTLD implementation program.Even though the program has not been approved by ICANN yet,Rod Beckstrom said that the program will be taken into consideration in the near future . At the Second Russian Internet Governance Forum,which will take place on 12 April 2011  at Expocentr Krasnaya Presnya,the registration of the new gTLD .Skolkovo will be one of the topics

Will Blocking TLDs Fracture the Internet?

With blocking of internet content pervasive by many regimes around the world, the most well-known being the Great Firewall of China, Minds+Machines’ Antony Van Couvering examines the issue in light of ICANN’s approval of the .XXX Top Level Domain and the Indian government’s announcement that they will block access to any .XXX website. Writing on the Minds+Machines blog, Van Couvering says “the creation of new TLDs which are offensive to someone, somewhere, will probably increase it. But will it fracture the Internet?” He asks the question in light of ICANN George Sadowsky’s dissent when ICANN approved the .XXX TLD at their board meeting that concluded the recent Silicon Valley San Francisco meeting.

Why Rod Beckstrom abstain from voting on .XXX ?

ICANN CEO,Rod Beckstrom explained that his decision to abstain from voting on .XXX was because he had legal concerns.Even though he said that there were extensive discussions and debate by the Board on this matter,he decided to abstain from voting. Here is what Rod Beckstrom said : “This was an extremely difficult decision.There were extensive discussions and debate by the Board on this matter . As expressed in Brussels last June when the issue also came to another related vote,while I accept the contribution to ICANN’s accountability and transparency provided by the existence and the use if the independent panel review process,I nonetheless remain concerned about the determination by two of three panelist that the ICANN board should not use business judgment in the conduct of its affair.I recognize that the Board did not adopt this findings of those panelist,and that the Board affirmed it application of business judgment to this decision within the rationale for this decision

Global Policy Proposal for the Allocation of IPv4 by IANA Post Exhaustion – Background Report, 4 April

Global Internet Number Resource Policies are defined by the ASO MOU – between ICANN and the NRO – as “Internet number resource policies that have the agreement of all RIRs according to their policy development processes and ICANN, and require specific actions or outcomes on the part of IANA or any other external ICANN-related body in order to be implemented”. Attachment A of this MOU describes the Development Process of Global Internet Number Resource Policies, including the adoption by every RIR of a global policy to be forwarded to the ICANN Board by the ASO, as well as its ratification by the ICANN Board.

ICANN Nominating Committee Candidate Recruitment Ends Today, 4 April

The 2011 Nominating Committee application period closes today, Monday, April 4 at 23:59 UTC. The 2011 Nominating Committee (NomCom) is seeking qualified candidates for the following key positions within ICANN: Two members of the Board of Directors of ICANN Three At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) representatives (one each from the Africa, Asia/Australia/Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean regions) Two members of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) One member of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) A few hours before the deadline, the NomCom has received 77 Statements of Interest. 12 candidates are from Europe, 22 are from Asia/Pacific, 11 are from Latin America, 14 are from North America, and 18 are from Africa.

ICANN announced that based upon the Board Resolutions at the recent Silicon Valley/San Francisco Meeting ,they adopted the 2011-2014 Strategic Plan.This plan is now posted and it’s a three-year rolling, annually updated strategic planning process.
