(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a Wall Street Journal report , security giant Symantec ( www.symantec.com ) is putting the finishing touches on a deal to buy VeriSign’s security division for around $1.3 billion, just weeks after the company announced plans to buy encryption firms PGP ( www.pgp.com ) and GuardianEdge ( www.guardianedge.com ), for $300 million and $70 million respectively. According to WSJ sources, Symantec is considering the acquisition of VeriSign’s authentication services unit, which provides widely used encryption technology that generated $410 million in revenue last year — making up nearly half of VeriSign’s $1.03 billion in sales, the New York Times points out .
