(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a Wall Street Journal report , security giant Symantec ( www.symantec.com ) is putting the finishing touches on a deal to buy VeriSign’s security division for around $1.3 billion, just weeks after the company announced plans to buy encryption firms PGP ( www.pgp.com ) and GuardianEdge ( www.guardianedge.com ), for $300 million and $70 million respectively. According to WSJ sources, Symantec is considering the acquisition of VeriSign’s authentication services unit, which provides widely used encryption technology that generated $410 million in revenue last year — making up nearly half of VeriSign’s $1.03 billion in sales, the New York Times points out .

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Rackspace Hosting ( www.rackspace.com ) announced on Wednesday it plans to bring two cloud infrastructures including SMB public cloud services and VMware-based enterprise private cloud to the UK by the end of the year. The company will offer a Xen-based cloud service for the SMB market, and VMware-based hybrid public-private services for enterprise customers. Due in the fourth quarter, the cloud services will be comparable to the ones Rackspace currently offers in the US, but will be delivered from Rackspace’s two data centres in the UK
