Security Breach Could Test Recent Massachusetts Law

A screenshot of the letter sent to New Hampshire’s Attorney General (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The breach of private information belonging to more than 100,000 Massachusetts residents could test the state’s new data privacy law, according to a report by Threat Post . New York City bus tour company CitySights NY was hit with a SQL injection attack on its servers, which contained the financial information of 1,850 Massachusetts residents was stolen. Though the breach occurred in September, it was not detected until October by a Twin America Web programmer.

110000 Credit Card Numbers Stolen in Tour Company Web Server Hack

A screenshot of the letter sent to New Hampshire’s Attorney General (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — New York City bus tour company CitySights NY ( www.citysightsny.com ) announced earlier this month that a SQL injection attack on its web server compromised about 110,000 credit card numbers.  Although the breach happened on September 26, it was discovered a month later on October 25 when a web programmer noticed the unauthorized script.  The breach became public on December 9 when a letter sent to New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney from CitySight’s parent company, Twin America, was posted online. Around 300 New Hampshire residents were among those affected by the attack. In the letter, Twin America suggests the Payment Card Industry (PCI) guidelines for storing card data were not being met

COICA Would See Domain Names As New Way for US to Regulate Net: Geist

The US government’s attempt to censor internet content with the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act that was recently introduced into the US Senate is examined by Canadian Professor Michael Geist in his recent column in The Toronto Star. The bill, also known as COICA, was described by the Electronic Frontier Foundation as flawed. The EFF said the bill if enacted “would allow the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to break the Internet one domain at a time – by requiring domain registrars/registries, ISPs, DNS providers, and others to block Internet users from reaching certain websites.
