Host Europe Provides Open-Xchange Webmail to 14 Million Email Accounts

A photo from Host Europe’s website shows the inside of its data center (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Domain name registrar and web hosting provider Host Europe ( www.hosteurope.com ) announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Open-Xchange ( www.open-xchange.com ) to provide free Open-Xchange webmail and personal information management to more than 1.4 million email accounts. According to the press release, Host Europe plans to consolidate its existing webmail solutions such as Atmail, Roundcube and SquirrelMail and replace them with Open-Xchange webmail by the end of 2011.

Josh Beil and Eugenio Ferrante prepare to deliver their report Wednesday afternoon (WEB HOST INDSUTRY REVIEW) — In the first session in the afternoon marketing track Wednesday at the Parallels Summit, Josh Beil and Eugenio Ferrante presented the results of a study of approximately 600 SMBs, conducted in an effort to gain some insight into their spending on cloud services. They found that US SMBs spend about $8.6 billion annually in cloud services, including $4.9 billion in hosted infrastructure, $2.3 billion in web hosting, $600 million in hosted email and $800 million in Hosted PBX (which seems to be a particular area of new focus for Paralllels). There’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg thing going on with Parallels’ definition of “cloud services” and the services it designs its products to enable.

(Proposal for handling recovered IPv4 address space) Introduction Global Internet Number Resource Policies are defined by the ASO MOU – between ICANN and the NRO – as “Internet number resource policies that have the agreement of all RIRs according to their policy development processes and ICANN, and require specific actions or outcomes on the part of IANA or any other external ICANN-related body in order to be implemented”. Attachment A of this MOU describes the Development Process of Global Internet Number Resource Policies, including the adoption by every RIR of a global policy to be forwarded to the ICANN Board by the ASO, as well as its ratification by the ICANN Board. In this context, the ICANN Board adopted its own Procedures for the Review of Internet Number Resource Policies Forwarded by the ASO for Ratification

Free Pool of IPv4 Address Space Depleted

Web Hosting News – Montevideo – The Number Resource Organization (NRO) announced last week that the free pool of available IPv4 addresses is now fully depleted. On Monday, January 31, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) allocated two blocks of IPv4 address space to APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for the Asia Pacific region, which triggered a global policy to allocate the remaining IANA pool equally between the five RIRs. Today IANA allocated those blocks.
